Achmore Hall
Hall governance is in the process of being updated. For many years the hall has been an unincorporated charity – Achmore Community Hall Association. While in the process of funding and installing our new heating system it has become apparent that, in common with many other village halls, we need to update our governance. There is now a new legal model that is being adopted by most community groups, halls etc called a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). This has several advantages including making admin simpler and avoiding any personal liability for charity trustees.
The hall is now in the process of adopting this and setting up a SCIO. The favoured approach is to give the SCIO a wide set of ‘purposes’ such that it will cover a range of activities. This will mean that it can provide an ‘umbrella’ to also facilitate other groups in our community such as the footpath group, or the repair café and any new groups that people want. It also means that the existing hall committee can just concentrate on running the hall, events etc, while the SCIO board itself could be a purely administrative body, which need only meet a few times a year.
