Stromeferry & Achmore

Stromeferry & Achmore Path Group

…is an informal group set up in 2023 to create, maintain and keep clear footpaths in the local area.

Some of the ideas we plan to work on are:

  • Investigating the feasibility of a walkway/cycleway between Achmore and Stromeferry alongside the road.
  • Clearing, improving and maintaining existing rights of way, such as the hill route between Achmore and Stromeferry, between Strome and Portachullin and others.
  • Clearing and improving forest roads and paths such as the Sulky road (up the Glen) and the Strome Wood paths.

We intend to hold regular volunteer days when footpath maintenance and improvement work can be done.  This will include installation of various gates, posts and waymarkers which we have ready, as well as general maintenance and clearing.  Please get in touch if you’d like to join us.

Footpath work in the community would previously have come under the Fernaig Community Trust.  Indeed it has been a central part of FCT activity and achievement for 20 plus years, with new paths created, as well as working with HC, the footpath officer and Scotways on signage, registering rights of way, planning new routes etc, and a commitment to public access.   However, a two thirds majority of the current FCT board has decided that henceforth they will have nothing to do with any footpath work, apart from the riverside path on FCT land.  This is because of concerns about liability and insurance costs.  Hence the formation of the footpath group, which is now looking for an appropriate way to constitute itself, to enable fundraising etc.  The likely solution is to come under the new SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) which is currently in the process of being set up to cover the Hall and other community activities.  (see Hall page)

If you would like to join the group please get in touch and we will add you to the email group.
